Enrico Savini
Enrico Savini is a
well-known bonsai artist and teacher, born on 12 November 1975 in Bologna,
Italy.
He had his first encounter with bonsai at the age of 9,
when his grandparents gifted him a little bonsai Pine that marked his life. Knowing
about his love for nature, they had decided to make this strange for a
9-year-old boy gift, and he immediately fell in love with it. He placed it on
his TV to keep it close to him and, not being able to take his eyes off of it,
he started observing that Pine instead of any TV program. And the story went on
for about 10 days, when he saw that the Pine had died. Sad as he was, he was
trying to understand why this had happened. So, he started searching for books,
and any type of information available at that time, but there was not much. He
then began to experiment and approach the art of growing little potted plants,
trying so very hard to learn for years, and leading him to finally choose the
path of bonsai art over his already advanced Law studies.
He would often walk kilometers away from his family
house following the railway lines which led to a nursery, only to spend the
little savings he managed to make every now and then to pick a little bonsai
that would make him smile from joy.
He then started working as a waiter, so that he saves
more for his bonsai path.
This passion lasted over time until he joined a small
regional club, bringing it in a few years to the highest levels among the
associations of the entire region.
In 1997, he won the Regional Talent Bonsai Competition
in Italy, and immediately after, he decided to join “Studio Botanico” (the
first real bonsai school born in Milano, Italy, under the guidance of Salvatore
Liporace) in order to refine his avant-garde techniques and aesthetic vision.
After a few years of apprenticeship, he became the
youngest National Instructor recognized by the IBS (Istruttori Bonsai e Suiseki)
and in 2002 he founded the " Progetto Futuro European Bonsai School "
with the help of two lifetime friends that trusted in him.
Within short time, the school received the recognition
of UBI (Unione Bonsaisti Italiani) and in 2006 conquered the title of “School
of the Year” for the quality of teaching, bringing to a very high level many,
famous today, students of his.
In 2009 he became International Instructor recognized
by BCI (Bonsai Club International).
He conducted many bonsai workshops with the most
important European Bonsai Artists and he makes demonstrations (Demos),
critiques, exhibitions, workshops and lessons worldwide.
He received excellent critiques from Japanese Masters,
and has won many awards and competitions, such as:
•
6 awards UBI (Unione Bonsaisti Italiani)
•
many awards of honorary distinction (Menzione di
Merito)
•
several national and international competitions, such
as:
•
the Noelander's Trophy 2012,
•
the Ben Oki International
Design Award 2003,
•
the Kaneko Memory Cup of
Crespi in 2019
He continues his course in the art of bonsai with the
same irreducible passion being the Head Art Director of his school and
following personally the branches of his school both in Italy and abroad. His
continuous research in the avant-garde means that he actively collaborates with
the most important specialized magazines in the bonsai world and that he is
invited as a headliner demonstrator in the most important European Congresses.
He likes to work on trees both from simple nursery
material and yamadori, as well as trees from Japan (being actually one of the
first owners of Japanese trees in order to elevate the artistic level of Italy),
while he has a great interest in the techniques of grafting, as he says that he
likes to "change the tree’s clothes."
A fellow traveler with all the lovers of this
wonderful art, he considers teamwork and cooperation between other artists as
the most important values, and he believes that the results are absolutely remarkable
when many minds work together for a purpose rather than one mind alone!
